Formative Assessments and Standards Based Grading

Hello Team,
First, I want to say how IMPRESSIVE it has been to hear such positive feedback from teachers regarding the Common Assessments roll out over the last 2 weeks!  I know how much work you ALL have put into making sure this initiative is going forth smoothly with our teachers.
As we plan for professional development for the 2010-2011 school year, I see another workshop that is being offered by Solution Tree that we may want to consider, but I wanted to get feedback from you first.  Ms. Begley mentioned that she saw the second part to the training we attended on the website, and it is in Florida, but I do not see it.  The link below is a 2-day training in Jacksonville that involves the Grading Piece.  Please look it over and let me know your thoughts.  This is a good time to start a blog, so we can discuss (Phil, are you interested in setting this up?), but in the meantime we will use email :-)

Let me know...thank you!

  2. It looks like we'll learn something there. I'm all about learning something.

When it comes to using what we'll learn at this conference back here at school, it will all depend on the direction we take in the first semester. We should install time in our PLC's for developing common assessments, planning instruction for students who "get it" and students that don't, and time for common scoring with teammates.

The first semester could work as teaching our faculty a habit of using common assessments and collaborating with each other. We could certainly build on that starting in January (of course, that's crunch time though).

I'll get started on a blog and get you all in. When I have it set up, we'll al be able to sign in and share.

  3. I've also heard nothing but good reviews on this initiative. The training on grading would be an asset to furthering the effectiveness of common assessments for sure; I'm in on that.

This morning I gave our grade-level teams the first four weeks of their IFC's to start looking to see what they want to target and when their first formative assessment might be given for next year. They were all very receptive and seemed to be having productive conversations about it... I think all is going well. Looking forward to getting together again to talk about the feedback we'll have after tomorrow.

  4. I am looking forward to meeting everyone again on 5/28 to review what has been accomplished so far with Common Assessment. The feedback that I have received is positive and everyone is motivated to make a difference.

  6. Thanks, Mrs. Phillips.

Brandy is super-organized. We got a lot of feedback in our PLC. We kept it open forum and let people just say what was on their minds. I recorded (as usual) and our comments go in every direction. I'll organize the comments and we can look at them if we have time.

I'll get a picture up soon. I made my profile private, but there's really nothing in my profile :-/
